To make sure everything goes smoothly for you and your dog, we recommend the following tips:
First, take your dog to the venue several times before the wedding day, if possible. This is especially important if there are other animals at the venue, such as horses, cows, or chickens. Even if there are no other animals, it's still a good idea to get your dog familiar with the space.
Second, bring your dog to a few family gatherings or your engagement party. This gives you a chance to see how your dog handles being around other people, and it also allows your family and friends to get to know your dog. You can also check if anyone has any allergies or fears related to dogs.
Third, make sure your dog has good recall and obedience. Consider taking them to obedience classes and teaching them a command to look at someone, such as "watch me." This can be helpful when taking photos.
Fourth, consider dressing up your dog for the occasion. A flower collar, a little tuxedo, or a color-coordinated bow-tie can be a fun touch.
Fifth, assign someone to be your dog's sitter for the night of the wedding. This person should be responsible for walking your dog and bringing them to any photography sessions where they are needed.
Sixth, decide how involved you want your dog to be in the wedding festivities. Will they be allowed to roam all night or just attend certain parts of the celebration? Make sure to communicate this with your sitter and other guests.
Finally, make a packing list for your dog. This should include food, bowls, a crate, puppy pads, and any other essentials they might need.
Remember, age is not a barrier: we've had weeks-old puppies and 16-year-old dogs participate in weddings. Your furry friend can be a part of your special day, too!
